Setting up email in Thunderbird
Step by step guide to setting up your email in Thunderbird
This guide will take you through the steps to set up your email account in Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.5.
Thunderbird is a free, reliable email client. If you would like to use it you can download it from the Mozilla Thunderbird homepage.
Step One
- Load up Thunderbird.
- Click 'Tools' then 'Accounts Settings...'

Step Two
- An 'Account Settings' window will appear.
- Click the 'Add Account...' button

Step Three
- An 'Account Wizard' window will appear.
- Ensure the 'Email account' option is selected.
- Click the 'Next' button.

Step Four
- An 'Account Wizard' window will appear requesting your identity details.
- Enter the name you wish to appear on your emails into the 'Your Name' text field.
- Enter your email address as supplied by Afterglow Media into the 'Email Address' text field.
- Click the 'Next' button.

Step Five
- An 'Account Wizard' window will appear requesting your server details.
- Ensure that the 'POP' option is selected.
- Enter your mail server address as supplied by Afterglow Media into the 'Incoming Server' text field.
- Click the 'Next' button.

Step Six
- An 'Account Wizard' window will appear requesting your username details.
- Enter your username as supplied by Afterglow Media into the 'Incoming User Name' text field.
- Note: Your username will be your complete email address.
- Click the 'Next' button.

Step Seven
- An 'Account Wizard' window will appear requesting the account name you would like to use.
- Enter an account name into the 'Account Name' text field.
- Note: This is simply a name to help you differentiate between multiple email accounts.
- Click the 'Next' button.

Step Eight
- An 'Account Wizard' window will appear congratulating you that the setup is complete.
- Click the 'Finish' button to finalise the setup.
- Now we need to setup your outgoing email server.
Step Nine
- On the 'Account Settings' window that appears click the 'Add...' button under 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings'.

Step Ten
- An 'SMTP Server' window will appear.
- Enter a personal description (such as 'Outgoing server') into the 'Description' text field.
- Enter your mail server address as supplied by Afterglow Media into the 'Server Name' text field.
- Enter your username as supplied by Afterglow Media into the 'Incoming User Name' text field.
- Note: Your username will be your complete email address.
- Leave the remaining settings as they are.
- Click the 'OK' button.

Step Eleven
- Click the 'OK' button on the 'Account Settings' window.
- Your email is now setup in Mozilla Thunderbird.
